Audio and Radio Dramas

My love for audio dramas was birthed many years ago when as a preteen I began to listen to the radio. Music, talk radio, infomercials, sports. I became a talk radio junkie. Early morning farm reports, political talk, relationship call in shows (probably should’ve stayed away from those), news and commentary, local college sports broadcasts, late night paranormal. Christian broadcasting that included sermons, talk shows, kids programming, news, etc. I loved it all.

But my favorite was a syndicated show that aired from 8pm – 9pm on KMJ 580 in my hometown of Fresno, CA. “When Radio Was” hosted first Art Fleming and later the great Stan Freburg.

I can still hear the Intro now:

“Return with us now to those thrilling days of yesteryear, on When Radio Was, with your host, Radio Hall-of-Famer Stan Freberg!”

The show would highlight two, sometimes three, episodes of radio shows from what has become know as “The Golden Age of Radio”.

The first time I heard the show… I was hooked.

Your Truly, Johnny Dollar…Fibber McGee and Molly…Our Miss Brooks…Gunsmoke…The Shadow…The Creaking Door…Lights Out Everybody…The Lone Ranger…and on and on.

The audio dramas of yesteryear captured my attention and held on tight. I would later be introduced to the Pacific Garden Mission’s Unshackled and Focus on the Family’s Adventures in Odyssey.

I have been hooked ever since. Writing and producing several audio drama and live radio dramas over the years.

Currently in preproduction is a Biblically based comedy spoof of the OTR classic, Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar titled…Yours Truly, Johnny Denarii.

Stay tuned for more information.
